Welcome to our modern RV makeover! In this episode, we’re tackling the dining room and living room space. We’ve already painted the area with a nice warm white and installed vinyl plank flooring. To maximize the dining space, we removed a corner cabinet and relocated it to the bedroom. Additionally, we built an Ikea shoe cabinet near the RV entrance for extra storage. Next, we framed out a new dinette and replaced the old couch with a perfect-fitting one from Ikea. By building a frame over the wheel well and under the couch, we seamlessly integrated the new furniture. Stay tuned to see what we do with the new dinette space!

Modern RV Makeover – Part 4 Dining/Living Room
Introduction to the RV makeover project
Welcome to our modern RV makeover! In this installment, we will be focusing on transforming the dining/living room area of our RV. If you’ve been following our journey, you’ll know that we have already painted the space with a warm white color and installed vinyl plank flooring throughout. Now, it’s time to make some more exciting changes to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of this important area.
Changes made in the dining/living room area
Let’s dive into the specific changes we made in the dining/living room area. This space is crucial as it serves multiple purposes – a place to dine, relax, and spend time with family and friends. We wanted to make sure it was not only visually appealing but also practical for our needs.
Painting and flooring update
To set the tone for the entire RV makeover, we started by painting the dining/living room area with a warm white color. This choice not only brightens up the space but also creates a modern and clean look. Additionally, we installed vinyl plank flooring, which offers numerous benefits such as durability, easy maintenance, and water resistance. The new flooring adds a touch of elegance while providing a comfortable surface for walking and playing.
Removal of the corner cabinet
One major change we made was removing the corner cabinet. Although it provided some storage, we felt that it was taking up valuable space in the dining/living room area. However, we didn’t want to let it go to waste, so we repurposed it in the bedroom, as shown in one of our other videos. This allowed us to utilize the cabinet effectively while freeing up more room in the dining/living area.
Creation of a bigger dining space
Expanding the dining area was one of our main goals. We wanted to create a spacious and comfortable space where we could enjoy meals and gather with our loved ones. By removing the corner cabinet, we were able to achieve this. The additional space allows for easier movement and makes the area feel less cramped. The new dining space is visually represented in our video, giving you a clear idea of the transformation.
Addition of an Ikea shoe cabinet for storage
Storage is essential in any RV, and we wanted to incorporate solutions that were both functional and stylish. That’s why we decided to add an Ikea shoe cabinet at the front of the RV entrance. This cabinet not only provides ample storage for shoes but also serves as a convenient spot for storing other items like hats, gloves, and even small camping gear. It’s a practical addition that maximizes space and keeps everything organized.
Framing out the new dinette
In order to create a defined dining area, we framed out a new dinette. This process involved using suitable materials and considering the structural aspects of the RV. By framing the dinette, we were able to add stability and support to the seating arrangement. This improvement greatly enhances the comfort and usability of the dining space.
Choosing and fitting the new couch
Selecting the right couch for our RV was crucial, as it needed to be both compact and comfortable. After careful consideration, we chose an Ikea couch that perfectly fit the available space. The size and design of the couch complement the overall aesthetic of the dining/living room area. The new couch provides a cozy and inviting spot for relaxation or entertainment.
Building a frame for the wheel well
To optimize the use of space, Russ built a frame to go over the wheel well and under the couch. This innovative solution ensures that no area is wasted. By creating a custom frame, we were able to incorporate the wheel well seamlessly into the design of the dining/living room. The result is a smooth and cohesive look that blends effortlessly with the rest of the space.
Painting the frame and cabinet doors
To tie everything together, we painted the frame and cabinet doors. By matching the colors and ensuring a cohesive look, we achieved a visually pleasing and harmonious space. The fresh coat of paint breathes new life into the frame and cabinet doors, giving them a modern and updated appearance that complements the overall design of the dining/living room area.
Conclusion
We’re thrilled with the completion of our dining/living room makeover in our modern RV. The changes we made have truly transformed the space into a beautiful and functional area that exceeds our expectations. From the warmth of the white paint to the durability of the vinyl plank flooring, every detail has been carefully considered to create an inviting atmosphere.
